Surgery for weight loss, also known as bariatric surgery, is the most effective means of permanent weight loss. Most patients who struggle with weight are able to lose weight with dieting, but unfortunately almost all of these patients end up regaining the weight and, in fact, most end up even heavier than they were before they started dieting. Surgery is a highly effective tool to assist patients to lose a significant amount of weight and, just as important, helps them to keep the weight off permanently.
Our surgeons have been performing bariatric surgery since 2002. We have performed almost 900 operations and our patients have had excellent results. Our patients have lost more weight than the national average and our complication rate is significantly lower. Our surgeons’ experience, teamwork, and attention to detail has have helped ensured successful outcomes for our patients.
We are dedicated to ensuring a successful outcome for you through not only performing technically excellent operations, but also by paying careful attention to your specific needs and care throughout the entire process. We perform a detailed, multi-discipinary preoperative evaluation on all patients considering surgery. We will also see you postoperatively on a regular basis for the first year after surgery, and every year for life. We not only want to make sure you continue to do well for the long term, but we also want to share in your success by seeing how well you are doing!
Our surgeons offer all of the standard operations currently being performed for weight loss, including laparoscopic roux-en-Y gastric bypass, laparoscopic vertical gastrectomy (sleeve gastrectomy), laparoscopic adjustable gastric band, and laparoscopic duodenal switch. In certain situations, our surgeons may recommend one of these operations as the best option for you, but in most cases, the patient is able to choose which operation to have after discussing the options with one of our surgeons. We also perform revisional bariatric surgery on a case-by-case basis.
